Viking – Cities of Light River Cruise
Sue and I sailed on this Viking river cruise in July of 2024 and the entire 11 days was outstanding. The level of service, the organization, logistics, food, staff, tours and tour guides were all a 10 out of 10. We would very much recommend this cruise. Below is the complete itinerary. Note the cruise is also offered as Paris to Prague.
CITIES OF LIGHT VIKING RIVER CRUISE
Day 1. Overnight in Prague at Almanac X Alcron Hotel for 2 nights.
Day 2. 8:30am-12:30pm Panoramic Prague guided tour
Day 3. Left Prague at 8am. Stopped for a 4-hour Nuremberg Through History Tour. Boarded Alsvin ship in Bamberg. Evening Entertainment at 9pm, Charlie, the onboard musician.
Day 4. 8:40am-12:00: Bamberg Walking Tour. 2:30pm: Guest lecturer about the historical significance of the Main and Danube Rivers and the opening of the Main-Danube Canal. 4pm: afternoon Teatime. Evening Entertainment, Charlie, the onboard musician.
Day 5. 9:30am-12:30pm. Wurzburg Residenz and Walking Tour. Evening Entertainment glassblowing demonstration.
Day 6. Stopped at Wertheim between 8am-8:30am. Boarded bus for a 9-hour Heidelberg Highlights & Lunch with University Students Tour 8:30am-5:30pm. Ship arrives in Freudenberg between 12:30-2:30pm for those on the optional Amorbach Abbey excursion. Ship arrives in Miltenberg between 4-5:30pm. Evening Entertainment, is the cruise director for music trivia.
Day 7. 11am-1pm Mainz Walking Tour & Gutenberg Museum. 2:30pm Nautical Talk with the Captain about our ship and the waterways. 4pm How to make Rudesheim Coffee. 5:30pm Discover the World of Viking to find out about Viking’s itineraries. Evening Entertainment: 2 musicians playing the oboe and piano.
Day 8. 8:30am scenic sailing of the Rhine. Enjoyed scenery on the top Sun deck. Toured the Wheelhouse. 1:30pm docked in Winnegen. 1:30-6pm boarded buses for Cochem’s Walking Tour and Reichsburg Castle. Arrived in Cochem at 6pm. Departed 10pm. Evening Entertainment: 9pm. Jazz Duo.
Day 9. 8am. Arrived in Bernkastel. No included excursion. Walked around Bernkastel on our own. Ship departed at 11:15am. 1:30pm arrived in Wintrich. Trier Highlights shore excursion from 1:30-6:30pm. Boarded the ship at 6:30 in Schweich. Arrived in Trier at 10pm. Evening Entertainment, Charlie, the onboard musician.
Day 10. Departed ship between 8:15am-8:30am for Luxembourg Cemetery Tour and Reims Cathedral Tour. Arrived to Paris about 5:30pm. Checked into Pullman Paris Montparnasse Hotel for 2 nights.
Day 11. 9am-12:30pm. Panoramic Paris tour.
Day 12. Departed hotel for airport.
